FAITH FORMATION | RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM

Faith Formation/Religious Education Registration Form

This group is responsible for providing religious instruction for students in Kindergarten through high school.

Students in second grade receive instructions in preparation for receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. These children must be baptized prior to receiving these sacraments and have one year of formal catechesis. Students in ninth grade enter into the Confirmation Program.

The main goal of catechesis is to prepare teens and young adults to confirm and strengthen their beliefs as they enter the next stage of their spiritual lives as Christians. Candidates for Confirmation must have previously received the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. They are also required to attend a retreat and participate in several community service projects. In addition to their regular studies, the students in the Religious Education program present two programs to the parish each year. During the Christmas season, the students in the younger grades perform the nativity. During Lent, the students in the older grades perform the Living Stations of the Cross. Our students also give to the parish by volunteering as altar servers and lectors, as well as assisting at parish events.

Classes for Kindergarten through 10th grade are held on Sundays from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm from mid-September through the end of May in the CCD Center in the Parish Center at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, 148 Clinton St., Binghamton, NY.

Only a nominal fee is charged for classes each year to help offset the cost of books and materials.

For more information, please contact Andrea Carey, Religious Education Coordinator at 607-724-1372 ext. 108 or email: acarey@syrdio.org.

Most High, glorious God,
enlighten the darkness
of my heart and give me
true faith, certain hope and perfect charity, sense and knowledge, Lord, that I may carry out

Your holy and true command.
Are you attracted by the life of Saint Francis of Assisi? Are you seeking a deeper spiritual life?
Join the Secular Franciscans!

The Secular Franciscan Order is an official Order within the Catholic Church which provides an opportunity for lay Catholics to live a Gospel way of life as established by Saint Francis. Members live their everyday lives in the world and regularly come together in fraternity. This way of life is a religious vocation, a spiritual calling to make Christ the inspiration and center of our lives with God and the Holy Spirit.
